Incorrect installation can expose skin and eyes to UV-C radiation, damage components, or position the bulb where it does not effectively treat the coil surface. Florida requires HVAC work inside the air handler to be performed by a licensed contractor. Most UV germicidal bulbs last 12 to 24 months. The bulb may still glow after that period, but its germicidal effectiveness drops below the threshold needed to kill mold and bacteria.
